Special Guest - Iain Rice (Continued)

Does this mean Iain has deserted Britain? Of course not. He has recently completed Railway Modelling the Realistic Way for Haynes. And when not writing and designing or doing a bit of custom layout building on the side, Iain tells us he’s renovating his “shabby cottage” in Devon and creating a new garden. Oh, and he’s also writing a full-length children’s novel.

But wait, there’s more

As we’ve already seen, Iain Rice is a talented modeller and lucid and engaging writer. He’s also an entertaining presenter. When he agreed to come to New Zealand it was on condition that we “work him hard”—and we intend to.

Be prepared for an array of Rice clinics and workshops on a whole range of topics, and to rub shoulders with the man himself during four days of convention activities
In answer to your next question, no we can’t let slip the exact topics (yet), as details are still being worked out. Please watch for our regular updates when all will be revealed.

This much we can say, there will be something about designing and building small layouts, and something about another of Iain’s favourite themes, the “natural look” with respect to viewing, presentation, perspective, colour values and, especially, lighting. These ideas are nicely non-specific so far as scale and prototype go, since Iain uses illustrations from all over
