This model railway depicts the Devon countryside and was originally built by the late Maurice Taylor of Christchurch over a 15 year period. Following on from his death it was bequeathed to the GCMR .



The OO scale layout is a two town concept; Tawelton, based on Barnstable and Hele’s Bay, set around the seaside town of Ilfracombe.

You can see a mixture of steam and early diesal locomotives on the layout. The region of England modeled was always associated with the Great Western Railway, with its distinctive brown and cream coaches and as a result the GWR is well represented on the layout.
